There are not only German yachts on the ORC-entry list for Nord Stream Race 2013: With “Blagodarnost 2” the first Russian boat with a crew from Kaliningrad has registered, too.
Owner and helmsman Sergei Pavlenko who bought the Elliott 45 at the beginning of the year has high hopes for the regatta season. He and his crew have for example started at Kiel Week and Warnemünder Week where the yacht achieved the second place in the ORCi division at the long-distance Round Bornholm regatta. The Nord Stream Race will be their highlight at the end of the season.
The yacht is well-known in the regatta scene. Her former owner Tilmar Hansen, who will also compete in Nord Stream Race 2013, can show off some successful results with the then-“Outsider”. 2008 the fast racer was sold to Warnemünder Sailing Club and sailed as a youth project under the name “Utsider” until Sergei Pavlenko bought the boat at the beginning of 2013.
The sailor from East-West-Club in Kaliningrad and his crew are a well-attuned team. 2011 they started their international regatta-career with the “Blagodarnost 1” (then-Rubin): One year later they already came third at the Welcome Race of Kiel Week and also took part in the Gotland Runt regatta in Sweden. In the same year the Russian team also won the long-standing race Gdynia - Wladyslawowo - Gdynia and the Krusenstern Cup. With the “Blagodarnost 2” Pavlenko wants to live up to this convincing performance and hopefully achieve a good result at Nord Stream Race 2013.
