Vladimir Liubomirov has been crowned Gazprom Swan 60 World Champion with his „Bronenosec“. After five days and eleven races his team were on top of the list of results on Friday, 19th of July, by a lead of six points. With a strong performance „Knights of Crevichon“ with Sir Peter Ogden pushed into second place and secured the silver medal for the UK. On rank three was the Russian yacht “Tsaar Peter” with Igor Frolov, followed by “Petite Flamme” (Dmitry Samokhin & Igor Goihberg). The “SGM/German Offshore Challenger”, that started with a up-and-coming team from NRV, was placed on rank five and finished the event with a respectable second place in the last race.
At the prize giving ceremony Liubomirov said happily: „Of course the victory of the World Championships is very important to me because I am co-founder of the Gazprom Swan 60-class. To be a successful pioneer here makes me very happy. All teams are equally competitive and could have won this Championship. However, we gave our best.”
Some of the competitors of the Swan 60 Worlds are now staying on the Isle of Wight in order to take part in the traditional Cowes Week (3rd to 10th of August) and the following Fastnet Race. „Bronenosec“, „Tsaar Peter“ and „SGM/German Offshore Challenger“ have entered. They are going to use the 600 nm Fastnet Race as preparation to the Nord Stream Race in September.
